Partner target
- co-ordination of environmental protection
- economic matters of environmental protection
- waste management within the region
- increase the eco-efficiency of the region
- lead regional businesses to eco-management systems

The key aim of the department is to manage the part of the Regional Operational Programme (ROP) dealing with environment, energy use and risk prevention and closely co-operates with the department for economic affairs and technology which is responsible for the regional innovation and economy policy.
Main Activities
- The funding programme Ökomanagement is the main hub for all businesses and public organisations which are interested in consultancy concerning eco-management and eco-innovation
- The funding programme Betriebliche Umweltförderung supports environmental investment for companies which want to increase their eco-efficiency.

"Ökomanagement" and "Betriebliche Umweltförderung". Both these instruments follow the principle to make access to funding for SMEs as unbureaucratic as possible. Only then will it be possible to motivate as many businesses as possible to start the process of eco-management systems such as EMAS or ISO 14001. The positive side effect of these companies is that they create new green jobs, which are more sustainable jobs
Partner input
The Lower Austrian partner will bring in the eco-innovation voucher system of Ökomanagement as a Good Practice into RECOMMEND with added value for the European partners.
Expected output
RECOMMEND offers Lower Austria the opportunity to learn from the experiences of the partner regions in eco-innovation policy and to implement improvements within the Regional Operational Programme of Lower Austria.

The Interregional Cooperation Programme INTERREG IVC, financed by the European Union's
Regional Development Fund, helps Regions of Europe work together to share experience and
good practice in the areas of innovation, the knowledge economy, the environment and risk
prevention. EUR 302 million is available for project funding but, more than that, a wealth of
knowledge and potential solutions are also on hand for regional policy-makers.
